Mathematics Olympiad

Mathematics Olympiad Qualifier(MOQ) is a UAE level Mathematics Olympiad that is conducted annually by International Olympiad Foundation(IOF®). IOF® is the official representative for International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO),  Balkan Mathematics Olympiad (BMO), International Olympiad for Astronomy & Astrophysics (IOAA), Hanoi Open Mathematics Competition (HOMC),  International Mathematics & Science Olympiad (IMSO) & International Mathematics Competition (IMC  in UAE.

Exam Date:

September to October

Syllabus: For the Initial Qualifiers (Round 1/2), Syllabus will be a mix of all the Curriculum for a particular Grade/ Year.

Students are supposed to follow their own school curriculum for the same.

Grade-1/ Year-2 to Grade-12/ Year-13

General Rules

  1. Student should register for the current grade/year in which he/she is studying at the time of application.
  2. Students can apply for a higher grade/ year at the time of application as well. But in that case all the records would be updated accordingly.
  3. Any student who is found competing in a lower grade would be disqualified automatically
  4. You must qualify the Mathematics Preliminary Olympiad qualifier (Round 1 ) that will be conducted during the period from September to October. The Preliminary Olympiad qualifier is Multiple choice question test consisting of 30 questions from Mathematics. Exam syllabus is a mix of all the curriculum for a particular grade/year. The Preliminary Olympiad qualifier can be taken in UAE in all the Emirates(Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah)
  5. If shortlisted in Preliminary Olympiad qualifier, you must appear for final qualifier (Round 2) to be held during the Period from Mid of November to Mid of December (Applicable only to Grade 8/ Year 9 and above). The final Olympiad qualifier is objective test consisting of 45 questions from Mathematics. The final Olympiad qualifier can be taken in UAE in all the Emirates (Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Ajman, Ras Al Khaimah, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah)
  6. Students from grade 8 onwards, in top 10 national ranks will qualify for the second round to be held in December.
  7. International Olympiad foundation will shortlist the students based on the qualifiers for IMO, BMO, IOAA, HOMC & IMSO.
  8. Age criteria for each International Competition is decided by the respective organising committee. IOF doesn’t have any control over this process. Please visit the respective International Competition websites for more information
  9. Students from senior grades will be given preference over junior grades for selection to IMO, BMO & IOAA. The preference from high to low for selection will be as Grade 12/Year 13, Grade 11/Year 12, Grade 10/Year 11 and so on.
  • Candidate must undergo the selection process conducted by International Olympiad Foundation
  • Contestants must have been born less than twenty years before 1 July in the year of participation at the IMO. 
  • Contestants must have been normally enrolled in fulltime primary or secondary education on or after 1 December in the year prior to the IMO, or,
    in the case of home-schooled students, must not have received a high-school diploma (or
    equivalent), and must be working toward such a credential on 1 December. 
  • 6 Contestants form an IMO National Team. Students will be shortlisted from Round 2 qualifiers to be a part of the National Team training. Best 6 candidates will be selected for the National Team based on their performance during the training sessions.

Balkan Mathematics Olympiad (BMO)

  • Candidate must undergo the selection process conducted by International Olympiad Foundation
  • Age should be less than 20 years at the time of the competition
  • Must be student studying in a school or completing a school in UAE and not enrolled into any University
  • 4 students will form a BMO National Team, out of which 2 will be selected from Grade 11/ Year 12 group and 2 will be from Grade 12/ Year 13 group

International Olympiad for Astronomy & Astrophysics(IOAA)

  • Candidate must undergo the selection process conducted by International Olympiad Foundation
  • Age should be less than 20 years on July 1st of the year of the competition
  • Must be student studying in a school or completing a school in UAE and not enrolled into any University
  • 5 students will form an IOAA National Team

International Olympiad for Astronomy & Astrophysics(IOAA JR)

  • Candidate must undergo the selection process conducted by International Olympiad Foundation
  • Age should be less than 15 years on January 1st of the year of the competition
  • Must be student studying in a school or completing a school in UAE and not enrolled into any University
  • 5 students will form an IOAA JR National Team

     

Hanoi Open Mathematics Competition (HOMC)

  • Candidate must undergo the selection process conducted by International Olympiad Foundation
  • For Senior team, candidate should be aged 16 years and 3 months or younger at the time of the competition. Students upto Grade 10/ Year 11 only can participate in this category
  • For Junior team, candidate should be aged 14 years and 3 months or younger at the time of the competition. Students upto Grade 8/ Year 9 only can participate in this category
  • Must be student studying in a school in UAE.
  • 6 students will form an HOMC Junior team, out of which 3 will be selected from Grade 7/Year 8 group and 3 will be from Grade 8/ Year 9 group
  • 6 students will form an HOMC Senior team, out of which 3 will be selected from Grade 9/Year 10 group and 3 will be from Grade 10/ Year 11 group

International Mathematics & Science Olympiad (IMSO)

  • Candidate must undergo the selection process conducted by International Olympiad Foundation.
  • Should be aged under13 years at the time of the competition. Students upto Grade 6/ Year 7 only can participate in this category.
  • Must be student studying in a school in UAE.
  • 6 students will form an IMSO National team, out of which 3 students will be selected from Grade 5/ Year 6 and 3 will be from Grade 6/ Year 7 group

International Mathematics Competition (IMC)

  • Candidate must undergo the selection process conducted by International Olympiad Foundation

Key Stage II: Participants must meet the following two conditions:

  • Students must not be enrolled in the secondary schools or in any equivalent institutions; and
  • Participants must be 14 years old or younger as of 27th July of the competition year
  • Participants born between 26th July (X-14) to 27th July (X-13) must submit a school certificate as proof that they are students of a primary school. X is the participation year.
  • Each participant has to fulfill both conditions. Otherwise, he will get disqualification.
  • 4 members for a IMC KS II National Team; 2 from Grade 7/Year 8 & 2 from Grade 8/Year 9

Key Stage III: Participants must meet the following two conditions:

  • Students must not be enrolled in the upper secondary education or in any equivalent institutions;
  • Participants must be 16 years old or younger as of 27th July of the competition year
  • Participants born between 26th July (X-17) to 27th July (X-16) must submit a school certificate as proof that they are students of a lower secondary school. X is the participation year.
  • Each participant has to fulfill both conditions. Otherwise, he will get disqualification.
  • 4 members for a IMC KS III National Team; 2 from Grade 9/Year 10 & 2 from Grade 10/Year 11
